Huangluo Yao Village

Huangluo Yao Village is the only one of Yao ethnic group among all the thirteen villages in Longji, where lives Red Yao people. You will find that all the women in the village enjoy wearing red clothes. But the extremely important characteristic of the village is that it's known as the Long-hair Village. According to local tradition, women cut their hair only once in their lives ― at about 16 to 18 years old when they are considered ready for adulthood and marriage. The cut hair is kept like a headpiece, and twisted into part of their regular hairdo. They hold a Guinness Record for the length of their hair!

You will see the long-haired ladies washing their 4-foot long hair along the riverbanks. Their jet black and beautiful long hair give people deeply impression. Is it the secret of how they protect their long hair? It is said that they wash their hair every two to three days with "rice water" (water used to rinse rice) in the nearby river. If you want to verify the effect of this kind of "shampoo", why not to have a try?
